Due to its mechanical properties, ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is extremely suitable for the production of your first functional prototype before serial production. ASA has excellent weather resistance and maintains its physical shape well. In addition, ASA has an excellent lightfastness and therefore hardly yellows.

Printing Fillamentum ASA:

Nozzle temperature: 240 - 255 °C
Heated bed: 80 - 105°C
Layer height: 0.2mm
Fan: +/- 10% > ASA doesn't like a windy environment!
Enclosure: Yes, or print a skirt as high as your object
Base: Brim 5 - 10 mm
Diameter: 1.75mm and 2.85mm
Diameter tolerance: +/-0.05mm
Length 750 grams 1.75 mm = 310 meters
Length 750 grams 2.85 mm = 105 meters

Amazing material! Will be using this as my default for functional prints. However, be super careful with the fumes. I have an enclosure and have a super well ventilated work shop, but after my prints finished I was super excited (and used to PLA), went into my enclosure to remove my glass plate, and had a good 30-45 minutes of drowsiness and dizziness due to the volatilized styrene fumes that built up in my enclosure. I've since bought a respirator for post print removal, and have plans for building a ducting system with some 1um filters as not to pollute, but think ahead when it comes to ventilation. Worst case scenario, unplug your printer post print, let the ambient temperature drop, and let any gaseous particles land before removing prints from your bed. Also, as mentioned in the previous review, heated bed and enclosure are a must. Even with the enclosure I'm seeing some warping, but only on my raft which is set @7.5mm but I may increase to 10.0mm to ensure any warping doesn't affect print quality for client projects. Note, the warping initiated around hour 9 of a 14 hour print, and its most likely due to the viewing window of my thermal enclosure. I'm considering additional insulation, as this material is tremendously sensitive to warping if there is any flux in temp.

Optimal print settings:
Bed Adhesion: Raft!!!! **** REQUIREMENT **** ALWAYS. USE. A. RAFT.
Nozzel temp: 255*C
Bed Temp: 100*C

Working with a 0.4mm Nozzle;
Layer height: 0.2mm
Width: 0.4mm
Retraction: 4mm @ 45mm/s

ASA van Fillamentum print gewoon geweldig mits je dit onder de juiste omstandigheden doet. Een heat bed is een must en een afgesloten printruimte om tocht buiten en warmte binnen te houden zijn voorwaarden voor een succesvolle print.
De beste resultaten heb ik gekregen door te printen op glas met haarlak. Bezit je een dual head printer, dan kan je desgewenst een raft printen met HIPS (separatie tussen raft en object op nul zetten) zodat ook die grote objecten succesvol geprint kunnen worden.

ASA van Fillamentum is, wat mij betreft, het betere alternatief voor ABS. De krimp is veel minder, heeft een zeer goed UV-bestendigheid en de prints hebben een professionele uitstraling.

Voor mij is ASA van Fillamentum het materiaal voor al mijn projecten!
